Miss Delaware competition returns to Cape Region June 16

June 9, 2018

The Miss Delaware Scholarship Organization has announced that the Miss Delaware competition is returning to Delaware’s Cape Region, and will be held at 7 p.m., Saturday, June 16, at Cape Henlopen High School, Lewes. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.

“We are pleased to announce that 13 young women will be vying for the title of Miss Delaware,” said MDSO Co-Executive Director George Lee. “We are excited to see who will represent The First State this year. We are also pleased to be returning to the beach communities again this year. Our contestants have appeared at the Rehoboth Bandstand, and will be seen around Rehoboth and Lewes before the Miss Delaware pageant on June 16. Cape Henlopen High School is a great venue for our state pageant. Additionally, we have 10 young women who will participate in the Miss Delaware Outstanding Teen Pageant, which will be held Friday, June 15, at 7 p.m., also at Cape Henlopen High School.”

Contestants participate in five phases of competition. Each contestant will have a personal interview; they will be asked questions on a variety of topics like politics, current events, platform and personality. As part of the Miss America Organization, each young women is required to have a personal platform that they advocate for throughout their year of service as well as the Children’s Miracle Network, the organization’s national philanthropy. Other phases of competition include on-stage question, lifestyle and fitness, talent, and evening gown. The winner will be crowned Miss Delaware 2018 and will compete at Miss America 2019 Sunday, Sept. 9, in Atlantic City, N.J.

Miss Delaware Scholarship Organization co-executive directors Tracey Eng and George Lee have issued a statement, following the Miss American Organization news that the swimsuit portion of the competition will be dropped beginning in September with Miss America 2019: “There will be no changes to the areas of competition or scoring for this year's Miss Delaware Pageant.  Any changes that occur will begin at the Miss America Pageant in September.”
