Miss Dewey Beach, Miss Southern Delaware named

Maria Kontis was named Miss Dewey Beach 2018 and Sophie Phillips was named Miss Southern Delaware 2018 during a pageant held Feb. 21 in the Dewey Beach Lions Club. Phillips won the title of Miss Dewey Beach in 2017. The two ladies will compete at the Miss Delaware pageant in June.

To become eligible to compete for Miss Southern Delaware and Miss Dewey Beach, young ladies must raise $100 for the  Children’s Miracle Network through www.missamerica4kids.org. Contestants must be at least 17 by the first local pageant, but no older than 25 by the end of the year they are competing in. They must: be single, never married; live, work full time, or attend school full time in Delaware; be at least a high school senior; be a U.S. citizen; meet character criteria as set forth by the Miss America Organization; and be able to meet the time commitment and responsibilities as set forth by the programs in which they compete.
