MOMS Club donates $4,350 to Primeros Pasos

January 14, 2018

At its January meeting, the MOMS Club of Coastal Delaware presented a check for $4,350 to Primeros Pasos.

The donation came from a portion of the proceeds of the club's 12th Annual Children's Consignment Sale, held in October at Cape Henlopen High School. The sale is the biggest event the MOMS Club puts on yearly and is greatly supported by the community. It takes a lot of volunteers and hours to move all of the merchandise over the weekend. After the sale is over on Sunday, local agencies set up so families can shop the donated items for free. A truck then comes and picks up the rest of the items and brings them to Little Grace Kids Closet at Grace United Methodist Church in Georgetown.

With about 100 consigners who participate, about 30 percent of sales proceeds goes to a beneficiary which the members of MOMS Club select through a vote every year. This year, Primeros Pasos Inc. was the chosen beneficiary.

Primeros Pasos Early Learning Center in Georgetown provides exemplary education in a culturally diverse environment for all children in need. It serves children ages 12 weeks to 12 years, and families primarily from the rapidly growing Hispanic community throughout Sussex County. In April 2017, Primeros Pasos moved into a 4,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art early learning center on its Savannah Road property. Primeros Pasos is a participant in Delaware Stars for Early Success, a program initiated by the Delaware Institute for Excellence in Early Childhood to ensure that all children enter school ready to succeed.
