More and larger billboards in Sussex County?

October 18, 2016

Holy eyesores, Batman! More and larger billboards in Sussex County! The Sussex County Council has lifted the moratorium on billboard advertising in the county! Larger, taller and more billboards will now be permitted on our major highways.

Wow.

Do we need more billboards on our highways? What are these people thinking? Doesn't the stretch of highway from above Lewes to Dewey Beach look bad enough with giant signs and billboards everywhere?

Businesses don't need these to be successful. People who are looking to spend money know where to look for products and services. Tasteful signage and advertising can produce the same results as garish signage and advertising.

What we need is a permanent moratorium on billboards and a group to work on alternatives to them.

Certain elements of government and business need to be watched lest our communities eventually lose all that makes them beautiful and inviting.
