Myrtle C. Mitchell, devoted Christian
Myrtle C. Mitchell, 97, of Lewes went home to be with the Lord, while surrounded by her loving family Saturday, April 14, 2018, at Harrison Senior Living in Georgetown.
She was born in Milford, June 22, 1920, daughter of the late Arthur and Elizabeth (Fitzgerald) Coverdale. She retired after 25 years of service from the Sears store in the Midway Shopping Center.
Myrtle's true passion was for her family. She loved time spent visiting with her children and grandchildren. Mrs. Mitchell enjoyed crocheting, cooking, reading, baking and gardening. She was also a member of the Christian Tabernacle Church in Lincoln.
Myrtle was a devoted Christian and a strong prayer warrior. She will be remembered as a loving and caring mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by the love of her life, Frank H. Mitchell in 2006; and two brothers, Leroy Coverdale and Donald Coverdale.
She is survived by two sons, Marvin James Mitchell and his wife Patty, and F. Wayne Mitchell and his wife Lynne; three daughters, Joyce Elizabeth Evans, Doris Mae Cunningham and her husband Paul, and Joan Mitchell Reed and her husband Pete; and 14 grandchildren, Marvin James Mitchell Jr., Tricia Leigh Sutton and her husband Rick, Frank Wayne Mitchell II and his wife Leslie, Kristin Lynne Joseph and her husband Clay, Donald Rodney Evans IV and his companion Christina Best, Robert Nathaniel Evans and his wife Danielle, Stephen Michael Bunting II and his companion Kaitlin Murphins, Ryan Mitchell Bunting and his companion Sara Tuck, Michelle Elizabeth Woods and her husband Adam, Bradford Elliott Reed, Bryan Edward Reed and his companion Erika Mako, Paul Carpenter Cunningham II, Dennis Alan Cunningham and Casey Ross Cunningham.
Myrtle is also survived by 21 great-grandchildren, Madison Elizabeth Mitchell, Natalie Nicole Evans, Gage Brian Joseph, Lydia Elizabeth Woods, Tyler Chase Mitchell, Mitchell Edward Joseph, Trig Wayne Joseph, Ava Nicole Mitchell, Katie Goldsborough, Robert Nathaniel Evans II, Rachael Best, Gideon Shane Woods, Anna Mae Woods, Paul Carpenter Cunningham III, Rylee Alexa Shockley, Reagan Mackenzie Cunningham, Savannah Marie Cunningham, Casey Ross Cunningham II, Claire Marie Cunningham, Makenna Rae Bunting and Camryn Eileen Cunningham; and a special nephew, Roland Coverdale and his wife Raquel.
A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, April 17, at the Long Neck Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 32013 Long Neck Road, Millsboro. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, April 18, also at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Henlopen Memorial Park in Milton.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions in Myrtle's name to the Margaret H. Rollins School of Nursing at Beebe Healthcare, 424 Savannah Road, Lewes, DE 19958.
