August 20, 2016

Free bus tours of the Nanticoke Heritage Byway will be offered during the Woodland Ferry Festival Saturday, Sept. 10. Tours of the south end of the byway will take place at 10 a.m, 12 and 2 p.m.; north end tours at 10:30 a.m., 12:30 and 2:30 p.m. Tours will be on a first-come, first-served basis. Sign-up will take place starting at 9 a.m. at the Nanticoke Heritage Byway tent.

The 40-mile route encompasses and connects key natural, historical and cultural resources in western Sussex County. The NHB will offer an alternative travel route to major highways and will be managed to protect special intrinsic qualities, encourage appreciation, and develop tourism within the area.

The Delaware Byways Program is a collaborative effort of Delaware's citizens, and local, state and federal government. The Woodland Ferry Festival will be celebrating its 21st anniversary from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Live music, food, pedestrian ferry rides, crafts, exhibitors, children's activities and more will be offered.

The Woodland Ferry will be open only to pedestrian traffic during the festival. For more information, go to www.deldot.gov and search Nanticoke Heritage Byway. For questions on the bus tours and Woodland Ferry Festival, contact Southern Delaware Tourism at 302-856-1818.
