August 21, 2016

The Coastal Sussex Chapter of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association presented a check for $10,075 to the local Sussex County branch of the Delaware Valley Alzheimer's Association.

The funds were raised in the chapter's annual charity golf tournament to benefit Alzheimer's that was held June 3 this year at Salt Pond Golf Club in Bethany Beach. Funds were also raised in a live post-tournament auction of local golf course foursomes.

The contribution comprises two parts: $7,459 was donated to Alzheimer's research in the form of tournament sponsorship checks and donations made out directly to Alzheimer's Research, a national fund-raising project of NARFE. In addition, the chapter donated $2,616 from tournament proceeds to the Sussex County Branch of the Alzheimer's Association to support the branch's local efforts to assist families dealing with Alzheimer's disease.

Jamie Magee, Sussex County coordinator of the Alzheimer's Association, based in Georgetown, accepted the demonstration check and thanked the Sussex NARFE Chapter and the participating golfers for their commitment to raising funds for Alzheimer's. "We are always appreciative of groups and individuals who join our efforts for increased funding for Alzheimer's research, and who help our local branch's efforts to provide services to families facing the epidemic of Alzheimer's here in Sussex Country. We are grateful for the support the Coastal Sussex Chapter of NARFE and this tournament have provided us over the years," she said.

NARFE Chapter 1690 President Carol Weber said, "All of us know someone affected by Alzheimer's, and we are committed as a chapter to helping raise funds to defeat the disease. We thank the many local businesses and individuals who supported this tournament and this important cause to allow us make this significant contribution."

Tournament Chair Bob Schappert said, "We had a great team from our NARFE chapter who organized and ran this successful tournament, and a great team of players who had a fun day of golf while also supporting the effort to fight Alzheimer's. It was a win-win experience for everyone."
