The NBA Finals will finally come to a close

June 16, 2016

This week is the US Open golf championship for the men at the famous Oakmont Country Club in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. This is a record breaker, as Oakmont hosts this tournament for the 9th time. In another interesting piece of golf trivia, except for the last champion, Angel Cabrera, seven of the previous US Open champions are in the golf Hall of Fame; including Jack Nicholas and Ben Hogan.

In 2007, Tiger Woods finished second to Cabrera along with Jim Furyk. This week my pick to win will be Bubba Watson, because he finished 5th in 2007. When Bubba likes a course he usually plays very well. I hope they can finish the event on time on Sunday because there have already been weather delays in the first round. When they have to finish a tournament like this on a Monday, it definitely takes some of the drama away from a popular event like this.

Last week, I totally forgot to mention the French Open tennis tournament. In the men's side, Novak Djokovic held to form in winning his 12th major championship in the last two years. He has clearly been the most dominating player on the men's tour. He will probably match or surpass Pete Sampras who has 14 majors to his credit. It will be a lot harder for him to reach Roger Federer, who has 17 at the current time.

Novak's style of play could become problematic as he gets older because of how he moves around the court. Right now he is incredibly limber and moves around like a gumby! I fear his legs will give out at some point. On the women's side, Serena Williams was again denied the record-tying 22nd Grand Slam title to tie her with Steffi Graf. Garbine Muguruza beat her for the second time in the French Open in the final. It will be interesting to see how Serena reacts. I still think she has plenty of time to beat the record, but you never know.

In other news, the Phillies are completely falling apart and don't deserve much any more mention other than to say we all kind of knew this was expected.

The NBA finals (which have gone on forever) will actually be over on Sunday. The championship series has taken almost 3 weeks to get to this point. Go Cleveland.
