Needlework submission period to open Feb. 24

February 16, 2017

“Buttons and patches and the cold wind blowing, The days pass quickly when I am sewing." The author of this rhyme is unknown, but it well describes the work of those who spend the cold days of winter working on counted cross stitch, needlepoint and other forms of needle art. The Rehoboth Beach Historical Society has celebrated many forms of needle art with the annual needlework exhibit. This year, the museum will hold its Seventh Annual Needlework Exhibit Saturday, March 18, to Sunday, May 21.

Interested needle artists can download an application to submit up to five works by going to www.rehobothbeachmuseum.org. Entries will be accepted beginning Friday, Feb. 24. Needlework artists can choose to enter to be judged or just for fun. A nationally certified judge will award ribbons to those who wish to have their work judged, and a Best in Show across all categories will be awarded. All entries, judged and non-judged, will be eligible for the People's Choice Award, voted on by visitors to the exhibit.

The public is invited for a presentation by nationally known needle arts instructor and certified judge Dolores Andrew. She will discuss designing one’s own patterns, at 1 p.m., Sunday, May 21; reserve a spot by calling 302-227-7310.

The museum is  at 511 Rehoboth Ave., Rehoboth Beach, near the traffic circle and the chamber of commerce visitor center. Winter hours are from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Friday, and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday and Sunday.
