New dentist joins Maplewood Dental Associates

Maplewood Dental is welcoming a new dentist to the team in 2018.

In January, Dr. Katie Townsend, a native of Middletown and graduate of the University of Delaware, already has appointments to meet her first patients at the practice on Route 24 in Rehoboth Beach.

Townsend, or Dr. Katie as she likes to be called, will be joining other dentists at Maplewood: Dr. Steve Wright and Dr. Daniel Luckenbaugh, who also tend to be on a first-name basis with their patients.

“I’m excited to be working in a small community, where everyone knows each other,” Townsend said. “It’s more intimate, and it’s more of a small-town feel than the city.”

After she graduated from dental school at Temple and completed her residency at Christiana Care, Townsend said she’s been working in public health in Wilmington.

Dr. Katie explained that as a child, she had to have many baby teeth pulled, and her dentist made her feel at ease through the whole process. In fact, the experience was inspirational.

“My dentist was great, and I had a drive to do the same thing,” Townsend said. “My favorite part of the job in dental health is helping patients feel more confident about their smile, listening, and giving comprehensive care.”

Maplewood office management reports appointments with Townsend are filling quickly at the long-standing dental practice.

As for the new dentist, Townsend said she’s looking forward to starting her general practice to address the needs of children, their parents and anyone else looking for a more confident smile.

 “My husband and I are very excited because we both love the beach atmosphere, and we both dreamed to retire at the beach,” Townsend said. “But we kind of expedited the process.”
