New members join Daughters of the American Revolution Lewes chapter

October 22, 2016

The Colonel David Hall Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution welcomed four new members at their Chapter meeting Oct. 8. They are Lindsay Magee, Vanessa Magee, Gail Jankowski and Abigail Adkins. Chaplain Vicki Dawes administered the oath of membership.

Both Magees and Adkins share the same Revolutionary patriot Stanton Adkins. He was a soldier under Captain Davis in the Wicomico Battalion of the Worcester County Militia. Zebulon Hollingsworth is Gail Jankowski’s Revolutionary ancestor. He attained the rank of private during his service under Colonel Kenan in the North Carolina Militia.

The DAR, founded in 1890 and headquartered in Washington, D.C., is a nonprofit, non-political volunteer women’s service organization dedicated to promoting patriotism, preserving American history and securing America’s future through better education for children. Any woman over the age of 18 who can prove lineal, bloodline descent from an ancestor who aided in achieving American independence is eligible to apply for membership in the DAR. The Colonel David Hall Chapter is based in Lewes and welcomes prospective members to attend their monthly meetings.
