New voting proposal in Rehoboth opposite of progressive

November 17, 2017

Rehoboth Beach Mayor Paul Kuhns uses the term "progressive" in his letter in last Friday's Gazette, referring to the proposal to extend voting rights to LLCs, corporations and partnerships that own property in the city.

Progressive voting rights generally include topics such as same-day voter registration, publicly funded campaigns, and proportional representation - all as they relate to residents in a voting district.

Progressives are also trying to restrict the influence of corporations and money on our elections, not give them a vote! No court has gone so far as to say that these entities are entitled to vote in local or federal elections.

Far from progressive, the voting charter changes being proposed in Rehoboth seem unconstitutional.
