Cape Henlopen school board meets Jan. 11
The Cape Henlopen school board will meet at 6 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 11, in the library of Love Creek Elementary on Route 24.
The board will discuss the upcoming 2018 referendum and possibly vote on a tax rate increase for operational costs to operate a new middle school. The board will also hear updates on construction projects for a new Rehoboth Elementary and a new Sussex Consortium.

Dewey budget and finance meeting Jan. 12
The Dewey Beach Budget and Finance Committee is scheduled to meet at 3:30 p.m., Friday, Jan. 12, in the Dewey Beach Life Saving Station, 1 Dagsworthy Ave. The agenda calls for a review of departmental draft budgets, the town’s fines and collections processes, the process associated with changing the town’s budget to generally accepted accounting principles, and a rebalancing of the town’s surplus investment.

Vincent elected president of council
Sussex County Councilman Mike Vincent, R-Seaford, has been elected president for the eighth straight year.  In addition, at its Jan. 2 meeting, council elected Councilman George Cole, R-Ocean View, vice president. Cole has served on council since 1986. Council also approved J. Everett Moore as county attorney. Moore serves at the pleasure of council as chief counsel. Legal staff from Moore & Rutt and Parkowski will represent the board of adjustment, and Guerke & Swayze will represent the planning and zoning commission.

Millsboro woman on ‘Let’s Make A Deal’
A Millsboro woman competed on “Let’s Make A Deal” during a filming held Aug. 18 in the studio in Van Nuys, Calif. Cassandra Winebrake had the chance to join host Wayne Brady in an attempt to avoid “zonks” and win prizes. The episode spotlighting Winebrake as a contestant will air at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 9, on CBS. A server at Irish Eyes in Milton, Winebrake attends Delaware Technical Community College to study graphic design. Show policy encourages contestants to not share information on the outcome of taped episodes until after they air.
