Pinelands Nature Trail closed temporarily
The Pinelands Nature Trail at Cape Henlopen State Park is closed for arbor maintenance work and will reopen after Division of Parks & Recreation staff have removed a number of trees within the trail for safety purposes. Most of the trees to be taken from the trail are in a low-lying area near the trailhead adjacent the Seaside Nature Center parking area. The work is expected to be completed late this week.
DTC sets workshop in Rehoboth Feb. 23
Delaware Transit Corporation will conduct a public hearing workshop to obtain comments on proposed changes to DART Statewide Fixed Route Bus Services to become effective Sunday, May 21, as well as Resort Transit Service to become effective Saturday, May 6, (pre-season weekend service), with full service to begin Monday, May 22.
The workshop will be held Thursday, Feb. 23, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., at the Rehoboth Beach Fire Department second floor, 219 Rehoboth Ave.
Minor time changes to improve on-time performance and connections will be considered. Route 212: Service would be reduced from 16 to 11 trips from Georgetown; and from 18 to 12 trips from Delmar/Laurel, operating from 5:15 a.m. to 11:05 p.m. Seasonal Resort Transit: pre-season weekend service to start Saturday, May 6; full service to begin Monday, May 22.

Dragon Boat Festival approved in Lewes
The Lewes Dragon Boat Festival will return to the waters of the Lewes-Rehoboth Canal Sunday, Sept. 17. A total of 36 teams will compete in the event, with hundreds of spectators expected to watch from Canalfront Park. Team practices will be held Sept. 14-16. The event is a fundraiser for the Sussex Academy Foundation. This year, the group is expecting to split the proceeds with a yet-to-be announced Lewes-based nonprofit organization. Lewes council approves boat ramp project
Lewes Mayor and City Council unanimously approved a contract with Murtech Marine for about $94,000 for improvements to the Canalfront Park boat ramp and floating docks. Including engineering, permits and other fees, the project is estimated to cost about $106,000, below the $125,000 council had budgeted for the project. The Friends of Canalfront Park group has pledged to donate $20,000 toward the project, meaning the city's share will be about $86,000. The project will begin this spring and should be completed by Memorial Day. For more information, call city hall at 302-645-7777.
Cape Henlopen school board meets Feb. 23
The Cape Henlopen school board will meet at 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 23, in the cafeteria of Beacon Middle School.
The board will discuss start times and busing and will receive updates on district construction projects. The board will also hear a presentation on the Little Vikings pre-K program and an update on Middle School performing arts.
Dolls Tea Program gets councilmanic grant
At its Feb. 14 meeting, Sussex County Council awarded a $500 councilmanic grant to Delmarva Clergy United in Social Action Foundation for the Dolls Tea Program for young girls.
