Sussex County Habitat to hold Rock the Block
On Saturday, Aug. 26, groups will rally to Rock the Block in Mount Joy, Millsboro. Rock the Block is a Sussex County Habitat for Humanity neighborhood revitalization program that provides cleanup, landscaping, painting and other minor exterior home repairs to engaged citizens, in order to create a greater overall impact on the community for the current and future residents. The Mount Joy Civic Association, composed of a number of local dedicated residents, applied to Sussex Housing Group this year to help improve their community.

Sussex County Habitat for Humanity is a proud member of Sussex Housing Group, a committee made up of nonprofit agencies, faith-based organizations, and private and public partners. On the last Saturday of August, Sussex Habitat is thrilled to welcome back the University of Delaware Community Engagement Team to volunteer on the local project. In March, 14 UD students worked in a focus neighborhood of Laurel, rehabilitating a home for a future Habitat homeowner. This time, 40 incoming freshmen from the university will engage a focus community once again, "rocking the blocks" of approximately 10 homes located in Mount Joy.

Mount Joy's Rock the Block day is the kickoff to the partnership with Sussex Housing Group that will include continued assistance with home repairs, street lighting, job training, and other quality of life services. Interested in being involved or learning more? Contact Sussex Housing Group Co-Chair Lillian Harrison at 302-298-3289.
