No thanks to Carper on prescription drugs

March 23, 2017

I received a mailing from Sen. Tom Carper urging me to "thank Senator Tom Carper for Voting to Protect America's Prescription Drug Supply."

Sen. Carper provides no data to support his claim that "counterfeit prescription drugs pose a significant safety threat to American families."

Yet there is plenty of data available to prove that his vote against allowing Americans to purchase drugs from Canada imposes much higher pharmaceutical costs on American families. Dramatic pictures of drywall debris, road paint, and auto antifreeze - purported (again without evidence) to be found in counterfeit medicines- add just the right scare component for a textbook example of propaganda. This mailing is a piece of misinformation and baseless claims worthy of the Trump administration.

Honestly, this mailing did not prompt me to thank Sen. Carper. Rather, it prompted me to call his office to ask how deeply he is in the pocket of the pharmaceutical lobby.

Shame on Sen. Carper.
