Ocean Waves Quilt Guild show set July 21, 22

January 24, 2017

The Ocean Waves Quilt Guild will hold a quilt show from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Friday and Saturday, July 21 and 22, at Cape Henlopen High School in Lewes. With over 200 members, the guild has been part of the Lewes community since 1997. The show's theme, Peach Blossom: Quilts in the Orchard, was chosen to highlight the floral emblem of Delaware. The peach blossom became the state flower in 1895, because the state’s orchards contained more than 800,000 peach trees.

Internationally renowned guest lecturer and workshop leader Laurie Simpson will be featured. A lifelong needle artist, Simpson's quilts grace galleries and private collections. Her work has been featured in Country Home, Coastal Living, Architectural Digest, American Patchwork and Quilting, and McCall's Quilting. She joyfully spends her time quilting, creating, teaching, writing and designing fabric for Moda Fabrics with her sister and design partner Polly Minick.

Leading another workshop will be Terry Kramzar, a prominent art quilter, who draws on her travels and adventures for inspiration. Kramzar exhibits widely in juried and invitational shows.

A quilt appraiser and judge will be available by appointment only for quilt appraisals.

The show will feature an exhibition of over 300 judged quilts, a themed peach blossom quilt challenge, raffle basket drawings, a merchants mall with numerous vendors of quilting and non-sewing items for sale, on-site food service, a second-time-around shop and demonstrations.

Admission is $8 a day or $14 for a two-day pass. Free parking is available at Cape Henlopen High School, 1250 Kings Highway, Lewes. For more information, go to www.OceanWavesQuiltGuild.org.
