Oktoberfest at Milton Farmers Market to feature Dogfish beer, live music Oct. 6

September 27, 2017

The Milton Farmers Market will close out its most successful season yet Friday, Oct. 6, with the Annual Oktoberfest at Dogfish Head Brewery. This celebration of fall features DFH brews, more than 20 sellers' tents, a pumpkin-carving contest, and live music from Charlie and the Cool Tones. The market is held from 3 to 6 p.m. on the lawn at Dogfish Head Brewery, 6 Village Center Drive in Cannery Village.

DFH Pumpkin Ale (and others) will be available at the Beer Tent for market patrons to enjoy as they browse the sellers' tents, taste the samples, and chat with the sellers. Thinking about Thanksgiving? TA Farms will be on hand, ready to take Thanksgiving orders, as will Nana's Delights and Pasqualini's Bakery for fruit pies and pastries. All vendors on site will be happy to assist in holiday meal planning with fresh and wholesome selections.

Oktoberfest features local favorites of farm-fresh vegetables and fruits including hydroponic lettuces and heirloom varieties, hormone-free all-natural meats and poultry, just-from-the-oven pastries, pies and artisan breads, wild-caught seafood, plus a range of homemade jams and jellies. Specialty items include alcohol-infused gelato from Blotto Gelato, just-popped Eastern Shore Kettle Korn, Davidson's Exotic Mushrooms, artisan cheeses at The Cheese Board, unique corn flavors at The Corn Exchange, freshly made fudge, treats for Fido and Fluffy under the Pet Wants canopy, and unique hand-crafted serving pieces at Tall Oak Trading. This last market of the season in Milton provides followers a great opportunity to stock up, fill the pantry, and load the freezer for the winter months to come.

Don't forget to have cutlery sharpened at the Sharp Edge truck.

Abbott's Grill will have a selection of delicious prepared meals on the grill to enjoy on site at the picnic tables or packaged for take-away. Charlie and the Cool Tones will provide the music with their high-energy renditions of the best of classic rock. Grab a snack or a cool one, and settle in to the sounds at the tables set in front of the performance area.

The Great Pumpkin Carve jack-o-lantern contest is open to anyone, and winners will be selected in three age-defined groups. Bring carved creations to the DFH Milton Farmers Market at 2:30 p.m. for set-up, and get ready for the fun. Market patrons will cast ballots for their favorites, and winners will be announced before the market ends.

Abundant free parking is available in DFH's huge parking lot. As always, friendly dogs on six-foot leashes are welcome. Visit miltonfarmersmarket.org, and come back Nov. 17 for the Milton Farmers Market bonus holiday fest, held at Dogfish Head Brewery the Friday before Thanksgiving.
