Ollie Mae Toomey, a real pistol

May 9, 2018

Ollie Mae Toomey, 72, of Laurel, formerly of Sparta, Tenn., passed away at home in the care of her family Monday, May 7, 2018. She was born Oct. 23, 1945, to the late Herman and Mary Conley Dilldine in Sparta.

She married Walter F. Toomey and raised four daughters. Mr. Toomey preceded Ollie in 2013 after 52 years of marriage. Mrs. Toomey retired from Townsend's after serving on the vaccination crew. She loved watching "her stories" on TV, and was a homebody. She loved to spend time with her family, but was definitely in charge of directing the cooking, was strong-willed and a real pistol. All of it was in love, as she was devoted to them all, as well as her beloved dog Rusty.

She is survived by daughters: Kathy Ann "Kat" Toomey and her companion Jerry Miller Sr. of Laurel; Ethel Mae "Ducky" Mitchell of Millsboro; Lori "Boney" Hensley and her husband Lonnie of Laurel; and Theresa Jenkins and husband Paul Sr. of Georgetown.

Ollie is survived by two sisters, Peggy Klumb of Archdale, N.C., and Treva Johnson of Franklinville, N.C. She has three brothers: Carl Dilldine of Ashboro, N.C., Charles Earl Dilldine of Archdale, and Harold Jean Dilldine also of Archdale. There are eight grandchildren: Terry W. Toomey, Jerry W. Miller Jr., Carrie L. Toomey, Tracey M. Toomey, Misty L. Toomey, Mellisa A. Toomey, Paul A Jenkins Jr. and Mindy S. Jenkins. In addition, she has 14 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
