Ona V. Kalista, kind and caring person

November 22, 2017

The Angels came for Ona Kalista Monday, Nov. 20, 2017. Her journey of 101 years began in Scranton, Pa., in 1916, and the final chapter was enjoyed in Huling Cove, Lewes and with family in Harbeson.
Ona was a kind and caring person who generously gave of her time and talents to help the sick and elderly wherever she lived. While working in Washington, D.C. in the ‘0s, she spent her days off from work visiting wounded soldiers at Walter Reed Hospital. She was an inspiration to many as she fought cancer twice. She has a hand-sewn block on the quilt at the Tunnell Cancer Center as a survivor of over 50 years. Ona said the key to her longevity was her strong faith, and always having a song in her heart. Ona was preceded in death by her parents, husband and four brothers. She is survived by a son, Daniel Kalista of Lewes; daughter Janet Fogg and her husband Eric of Harbeson; and granddaughter Diana Fogg of Rehoboth Beach.
A visitation will be held from noon to 1 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 28, at the Long Neck Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 32013 Long Neck Road, Millsboro, where a funeral service will begin at 1 p.m. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Dagsboro.
