One person died March 18 after a fire at a Long Neck home.

Firefighters responded to the unit block of Harbor Road in Malone's Marina at 3 a.m. to find the home engulfed in flames, said Michael Chionchio, assistant state fire marshal.

Indian River Volunteer Fire Co. officials say the initial fire reporting included a golf cart type of vehicle fire that ultimately spread to a nearby shed and house. Lewes and Millsboro firefighters also responded to the scene, officials say.

Firefighters removed a resident who was taken to Beebe Healthcare and pronounced dead on arrival, Chionchio said. Two other occupants were treated and released from Beebe Healthcare, he said.

Damage is estimated at $50,000. Investigators are determining the cause and origin of the fire, Chionchio said.
