Opening reception set for RAL Members’ Fine Arts Exhibition July 29
Rehoboth Art League's 78th Annual Members' Fine Arts Exhibition open with a reception from 5 to 7 p.m., Friday, July 29, at the Rehoboth Art League in Henlopen Acres. The opening reception is free and open to the public, and is generously sponsored by Dogfish Head. This exhibition showcases artworks in a variety of mediums including paintings in watercolor, oil and mixed media; sculptures in stone and ceramics; and both digital and darkroom photography.
Following a long-standing Rehoboth Art League tradition, awards of excellence are presented at the opening reception. "It's hard to believe that this exhibition has been happening for 78 years," says Artistic Director Jay Pastore. "This speaks to both the ongoing talent and commitment of our member artists. Over 125 of them will be participating in this year's show."
The awards judge for this year's exhibition is Jackie Milad. Milad received a bachelor of fine arts in visual arts at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, and went on to earn a master of fine arts in visual arts from Towson University in Baltimore. Since August 2015 she has served as the Gretchen Hupfel Curator of Contemporary Art at The Delaware Center for Contemporary Arts in Wilmington. She is also the co-founder and collective member of the Transmodern Festival in Baltimore, and has also served as the exhibitions gallery director at Goucher College, and curator and director of The Stamp Gallery at the University of Maryland.
"Patrons and artists are often interested in the awards process, as well as why certain works of art are recognized for awards," says Pastore. "On Saturday, July 30, from 2 to 3 p.m, in the main galleries, Ms. Milad will shed light on this process, and be available to discuss her choices, as well as speak to individual artists about their works."
The exhibition runs through Sunday, Sept. 4.
