Opening weekend at the Starboard kicks off summer March 15

February 28, 2018

The first day of spring is Tuesday, March 20, but as far as The Starboard Restaurant is concerned, it's summer beginning on St. Patrick's Day weekend when they officially reopen for 2018. Locals can celebrate with all their closest friends.

Steve "Monty" Montgomery is excited to kick off the season with a combination opening weekend/St. Patrick's Day celebration fit for a vibrant beach town.

Because so many businesses also reopen the same weekend, piggybacking on all the diehards heading to Dewey for the Starboard, it feels like the season truly begins with the Starboard's annual opening.

"We consider the Starboard's world-famous reopening party to be the unofficial kickoff of the summer season, and we are ready for the seven-month summer season to begin," said Montgomery who promises another year that builds on the momentum of seasons past. And like a fine wine, The Starboard is only getting better with age.

For its 59th season in operation, Montgomery is looking forward to signature events like the 22nd Annual Running of the Bull Saturday, June 23; the return of G. Love Thursday, July 19; and of course, their awesome regular headliners Kristen and The Noise, Lauralea & Tripp Fabulous, and Amish Outlaws. It's going to be another action-packed summer, and it all starts mid-March.

Festivities kick off from 5 to 7 p.m., Thursday, March 15, when the Rehoboth Beach-Dewey Beach Chamber of Commerce will host its largest happy hour of the year. That night, the locals’ opening party will commence with Lauralea & Tripp Fabulous welcoming everyone out of hibernation. Then Friday, March 16, the big tent goes up in the parking lot and stays until Sunday, March 18, as the staff gives a St. Paddy's Day hello to everyone coming to town for a fun and wild weekend.

There will be live entertainment and DJs all weekend long, as well as the usual staples the regulars have come to know and love at their favorite Dewey Beach establishment. The coveted Starboard VIP cards will be handed out during opening weekend. There may not be a pot of gold at the end of The Starboard’s rainbow, but Saturday, March 17, after a few spritz nippers, patrons will be sure to mistake someone dressed in green for a leprechaun!

From March 15 forward, The Starboard will be open to serve breakfast at 8:30 a.m., Thursday to Sunday, until Tuesday, May 1, when they open at 8 a.m. seven days a week. For more information go to www.thestarboard.com.
