Outstanding jazz quartet to play at St. Peter’s Oct. 13

October 5, 2017

An exciting addition to the lineup of jazz musicians featured during Rehoboth's jazz festival this month will be the Eric Mintel Quartet that returns for a second year to play at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, Lewes, at 7 p.m., Friday, Oct. 13.

Last year, with Nelson Hill on sax and flute, Jack Hegyi on electric bass and Dave Mohn on drums, led by Mintel on keyboards, the quartet presented "A Tribute to Dave Brubeck," and their renditions of "Take Five" and "Take the A Train" brought the standing-room-only crowd to its feet. This year's program will feature jazz standards mixed with fresh compositions.

The quartet's appearance is sponsored by the St. Cecilia Guild, established last year at St. Peter's to support and enhance its music program by offering concerts and introducing professional musicians to southern Delaware. As with other programs in the guild's 2017–18 series, there is no charge for this special concert, but a free-will offering is welcome.

Mintel has a long list of credits, including opening for Dave Brubeck at Philadelphia's Kimmel Center and two invitations to the White House to play for Bill Clinton and Barack Obama, as well as several concerts at the Kennedy Center, a concert at the United Nations, and appearances on Marian McPartland's "Piano Jazz" on National Public Radio.

The quartet has been thrilling audiences of all ages with electrifying jazz for a quarter century, including what has become a staple of the holiday season, their popular Charlie Brown Jazz Concert.
