Overfalls Foundation awards two scholarships

August 30, 2016

The Overfalls Foundation announced the recipients of its 2016 Maritime Studies Scholarships. The two outstanding students have made a definite commitment to maritime science.

Richard "Ricky" Brokaw will be attending the University of South Carolina to begin his studies in marine science. In addition to receiving the Overfalls Scholarship, Brokaw was chosen to receive the Presidential Award for Scholastic Excellence. He will be taking his skills as an outstanding student, athlete and environmental activist to another level as he works toward a degree which will allow him to help improve the health of the marine ecosystems and the planet as a whole.

Nicholas "Cole" Conrad will be attending the University of Delaware in the Environmental Engineering Honors Program. In addition to his outstanding scholastic and athletic success at Cape Henlopen High School, Conrad has worked as an intern at the University of Delaware College of Earth, Ocean and Environment, which inspired his interest in marine science. He recently made a farewell visit to the Overfalls, which he had toured often as a scout, before setting off on the next stage of his career.

The Overfalls Foundation members are confident that, on completion of their studies, these two scholars will make significant contributions in protecting the fragile maritime environment.
