September 27, 2016

Keda Dorisca has accepted a position as a public ally with Pathways to Success. Dorisca is a recent graduate of Delaware State University where she majored in political science with minors in law, women and gender studies.

Public Allies Delaware is a University of Delaware Center for Community Research and Service program. Public Allies’ AmeriCorps program provides a pathway for selected talented and diverse young leaders to utilize their talents and skills to build capacity in communities across the state of Delaware. Since 1994, Public Allies Delaware has developed over 350 young leaders who have completed over 600,000 hours of service to Delaware.

Dorisca is a Georgetown resident and a 2012 graduate of Sussex Technical High School. She was an active and successful participant of the Pathways to Success in-school mentoring and education program. Dorisca says, "Pathways to Success helped me understand the talents and gifts that I have. But more importantly, that I have the tools to help others learn, grow and thrive. Pathways to Success helped me gain the necessary skills, discipline and confidence to be a successful college student and an active participant in the Delaware State University community. I'm so grateful to Pathways to Success and I want to give back by helping current students in the program find their pathways to success."

Fay Blake, Pathways to Success executive director, said, "I am humbled, thrilled and proud that Keda has joined our PTS team once again. The first time she joined us as a PTS student, seeking help to have a better life through education. This time she joins the Pathways to Success team helping others understand that they can succeed and escape from poverty through education. She is a wonderful role model and advocate for the underserved. I have seen her overcome many obstacles in her quest for academic excellence. Her firsthand knowledge of the hard work and dedication it takes to succeed academically will be an inspiration to the students she will be working with at Seaford High School."

Dorisca was class president in her freshman and sophomore years, lead mentor for Teach for America - First Generation Mentors Program and member of the National Society of Leadership and Success. She is also a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. After completing her two-year term as a Delaware Public Ally and Pathways to Success team member, she aspires to become a humanitarian attorney, focusing on women's and children's rights, both domestically and internationally.

Pathways to Success has been working with youth throughout Sussex County since 2006, with a 98 percent high school graduation success rate. For more information, go to www.pathways-2-success.org.
