Patricia W. Hummer, retired school nurse

Patricia W. Hummer, 89, of Seaford, formerly of Frankford, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family Tuesday, April 18, 2017, at the Methodist Manor House in Seaford.
Pat was born in Flemington, Pa., June 20, 1927, daughter of the late John David Walker and Goldie (Knarr) Walker. She graduated the Beebe School of Nursing in Lewes in 1948. Pat worked as a registered nurse and operating room supervisor, and then worked for several years in several different doctors' offices. In 1964, Pat became the school nurse at Sussex Central Jr. High and retired from the Indian River School District in 1991 after 27 years of service.
Pat enjoyed making crafts, creating beautiful ceramics, knitting and doing needlepoint. She was a member of Hickory Hill United Methodist Church where she played the piano for several years, and was a past member of the Delaware Educational Association.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by 15 siblings and her husband, James L. Hummer Jr. in 1991. She is survived by two children, Kathleen A. Hummer of Lexington, Ky., and James L. "J.L." Hummer III and his wife Bonnie of Dagsboro; a granddaughter, Kasey J. Hummer; and a brother, Billy Walker of Lock Haven, Pa.
A funeral service was held Saturday, April 22, at the Frankford Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 43 Thatcher St., Frankford, with interment at Carey's Cemetery in Frankford.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions in Pat's name to Vitas Hospice, 20773 Professional Park Blvd., Georgetown, DE 19947.
