Patriotic essay contest entries due to Milford VFW Nov. 1

Milford Blue Hen VFW Post 6483 announced that Milford-area students can submit entries for the Voice of Democracy Competition and the Patriot's Pen Essay Contest by Tuesday, Nov. 1. Winners advance to compete at the state-level competition and receive thousands in scholarship money, an expense-paid trip to Washington, D.C., and numerous other awards.

The Voice of Democracy Competition is open to students in ninth through 12th grades. Students write and record a three- to five-minute essay on an audio CD expressing their views on the 2016 patriotic theme, "My Responsibility to America."

Students in sixth, seventh and eighth grades may compete in the Patriot's Pen Essay Contest and win thousands in U.S. savings bonds. Students write a 300-400-word essay expressing their views on the 2016 patriotic theme, "The America I Believe In." Winners will advance and compete at the state level.

All entries must be received at the Milford VFW Post 6483 by Tuesday, Nov. 1. The mailing address is 77 Veterans Circle, Milford, DE 19963.
