Patriotism on display at Lewes Boat Parade

July 4, 2017

Hundreds celebrated the birth of the United States of America at the annual Lewes Fourth of July Boat Parade in the Lewes-Rehoboth Canal. Red, white and blue were the dominant colors on everything from pontoons to duck boats, as boat owners and their family and friends showed their patriotism in creative ways.

Winning the grand prize for at least the third time was the crew of the Elizabeth Jane, with about a dozen people on board dressed to the nines in red, white and blue while towing a duck boat featuring the likes of Abraham Lincoln, Ben Franklin and George Washington.

First-place prize went to Capt. Shank McCorkle and the crew of the Flip Floppin, with second place awarded to Capt. John Birney on the Tide Dancer and third-place to Capt. Tom Fouracre on the Zodiac No. 2. Honorable mention went to the Overfalls Foundation crew that rowed the recently restored Monomoy boat through the parade.
