Paul L. Hallisay, influential in government

February 17, 2017

Paul L. Hallisay, 64, of Lewes, died Monday, Feb. 13, 2017, in Stuart, Fla.

Born in Jamesburg, N.J., to Peter and Phoebe Hallisay, he was deeply proud of his upbringing and working-class Irish and Italian heritage as well as his beloved hometown.

He was inspired at a young age by JFK's call to service. This led him from Jamesburg High School to American University in Washington, D.C., where he earned a degree in political science. It was there that he met his wife Margo. They married in 1975 and eventually settled in Dunkirk, Md., where they raised their two children and made lifelong friends.

After college, Paul worked for the Laborers International Union before joining the Airline Pilots Association in 1977 where he eventually became the director of government affairs. He worked at ALPA for 30 years until his retirement in 2007.

Through his tireless work on behalf of the airline pilots he developed many meaningful and long-lasting friendships in the labor movement as well as with congressional leaders in both the House and Senate. He was on the board of governors of the National Democratic Club on Capitol Hill.

Paul spent the last years of his life on the shore in Lewes. He was always happiest looking out at the water.

He was predeceased by his parents Peter and Phoebe; and his brothers Vincent and Peter. He is survived by his wife of 41 years Margo; his son Brian and his wife Jennifer; his daughter Meghan and her husband Sean; and four beautiful grandchildren, Eleanora, Autumn, Juliet and Atticus, of whom he was immensely proud. In their hearts will forever live the best parts of him.

Services will begin at 11 a.m., Monday, Feb. 20, at the Lester Memorial Home, 16 W. Church St., Jamesburg, followed by an 11:30 a.m. funeral liturgy at St. James RC Church, Jamesburg.

Burial will be in Holy Cross Burial Park, East Brunswick, N.J. Visiting hours for family and friends will be Monday from 9 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
