Paying it forward on New Year’s Eve

January 20, 2017

On New Year's Eve, my husband, sister, and I were having dinner at Crabby Dick's in Rehoboth Beach. When we asked for the check, the waitress said it had already been paid. We were incredulous!

We kept asking who would do such a thing, but she only smiled. We marveled at our good fortune and as we prepared to leave a nice tip with the waitress, my sister noticed a couple who had been sitting diagonally from us get up and leave. She told me later that she thought it was they who had treated us.

We would like to give these benefactors our heartfelt thanks and can only hope they will read this.

You really made our night and embodied the gifts of kindness, generosity, and humility. After they had left, my sister noticed a young couple who was dining to our right. She decided to pay our gift forward and took care of their bill with our waitress. We left the restaurant feeling grateful to strangers and with renewed faith in humanity.
