November 20, 2017

A Pennsylvania man faces charges after police say he shot at another person Nov. 19 at the Classic Motel on South Dupont Highway.

David Tharp, 51, of Philadelphia, drove into the parking lot of the motel and brandished a handgun as he approached the victim, said Detective Joey Melvin of the Delaware State Police.

Tharp shot at the victim, who was not injured; Tharp then fled the scene, Melvin said.

Georgetown Police, with assistance from Delaware State Police, located Tharp’s vehicle at a residence in the Oak Orchard area and Tharp was taken into custody without incident.

Tharp was charged with first-degree reckless endangering, first-degree assault, aggravated menacing and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. Tharp was arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution in default of $45,000 secured bond.
