As soon as a Thunderbird lands, its crew goes into action in a fine-tuned ritual.
Six of the eight Thunderbird fighter jets will be used in the air show.
Based at Nellis Air Force Base in Las Vegas, the Thunderbirds have been thrilling air show attendees since 1953.
Thunderbird pilot Whit Collins flies in the No. 5 jet, doing upside-down maneuvers. All pilots must have combat experience and can serve two years on the squad.
U.S. Air Force Thunderbird F-16 fighter jets are on the tarmac at NASA’s Flight Facility in Wallops, Va., ready for two performances in Ocean City this weekend at noon, Saturday, June 16, and Sunday, June 17.
