Picnic in the Park will return to Lewes June 4

May 25, 2017

Picnic in the Park will return to Lewes Canalfront Park from 12 to 3 p.m., Sunday, June 4. This fun, old-fashioned community event has food, beverages and activities for the entire family. This annual fundraiser for Friends of Lewes Canalfront Park is in its sixth year. The park is on the banks of the Lewes-Rehoboth Canal at 211 Front St. in Historic Lewes.

Proceeds go toward maintaining and enhancing the park. This year, the Friends donated $20,000 to the City of Lewes for refurbishment of the kayak launch and floating docks at the park. With past years' proceeds, they purchased a filtered water fountain and bottle filler, and quality teak tables and chairs for people to enjoy on the deck overlooking the park. They also funded plantings and supported free weekly events for the Cape Region community to enjoy throughout the summer season, such as concerts, movies, yoga and Zumba.

A group of 12 of the best restaurants in Lewes, old favorites as well as exciting newcomers, will offer tastings of their signature gourmet dishes. The menu ranges from lobster rolls to ice cream and everything in between. Seasonal brews by Dogfish Head Craft Brewery and wine will be available to those who are 21 or older. In addition to great food and beverages, music, kids games and entertainment, Games for Grown-ups add to the festivities.

Adult admission for the picnic is $10 in advance ($15 at the door), and $5 for kids 12 and under. Food and beverage tickets are $2 each at the event, with most items being one or three tickets each. For more information and to purchase tickets online, go to lewescanalfrontpark.org or call the Lewes Chamber of Commerce at 302-645-8073. Tickets may also be purchased outside the Historic Lewes Farmers Market. For the information hotline, call 302-645-2795.
