Plant night set at Bethany Blues locations April 24, May 8

April 17, 2018

Spring is in the air, but it’s a little early to really get out in the garden. Bethany Blues will host plant nights at both its locations to help participants put their green thumbs to work while they enjoy premium barbecue. The Bethany Beach location will host a sea glass and succulents plant night at 7 p.m., Tuesday, April 24. The Lewes location will host a mermaid planter plant night at 7 p.m., Tuesday, May 8.

Planting coach Denise Bradshaw leads the events, and horticulture is in her blood. She said, “I come from a farming background. And when I learned that I could go to school for it, and make a career out of it, I was excited.” Bradshaw earned a degree in horticulture from Ohio State, and ever since, she has worked with plants in various mediums. Last year, after attending a paint night and posting about it on social media, someone said they heard about something similar for plants.

“I looked it up, and reached out to the paint night people, asking if I could be their plant night leader.” She said after that, it all fell into place.

Each evening has its own theme, and the plants change accordingly: “What people really like is that, although we have a theme, we aren’t all doing the same thing. Everyone does something a little different.” Bradshaw loves this creative element to the planting.

The class assembles at 7 p.m. Participants can choose from a variety of plants, and Bradshaw gives a tutorial on the types of plants, how they grow, and how to properly care for them. She says this lets people pick the plants that suit them best. As planting begins, everyone is instructed on proper drainage for the planters, and how high or low to plant depending on root structure. It’s a hands-on learning experience with a tangible takeaway.

For Bethany Blues, it’s another way for the community to gather and do something exciting and new. Tiffany Cordeaux, event coordinator for the Bethany Beach location, says, “We’ve been doing the plant nights for a couple of months now, and our customers really love it! They come away with a plant, and they’ve had a fantastic meal and/or drinks. What could be better?”

Participants can enjoy Bethany Blues’ great barbecue and a bourbon or beer beforehand, and make a full event out of the night. This is a creative evening whether it’s for girls’ night, date night, or making a special Mother’s Day gift.
