Playoffs for basketball in full swing

April 21, 2018

The NBA playoffs have begun. For the first time in a number of years, it doesn't seem like it will be a foregone conclusion that the Cleveland Cavaliers will be going up against the Golden State Warriors in the finals.

LeBron James is still one of the best basketball players in the world, even in his 15th year. He is the reason the Cavaliers have been good for so long. Since he doesn't have the usual supporting cast, LeBron will have to carry the team and that's a lot to ask of him. I think the Boston Celtics or the Toronto Raptors have a chance to beat the Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference Finals.

The 76ers' entire season has been exciting to watch. I wish I could be more optimistic but I think they will lose in the second round. In the Western Conference, I hope the Houston Rockets win over the Golden State Warriors, so that there will be a different final series.

In English Premier League soccer, Manchester City's dominance in the league already has them ahead by 16 points. They are ahead by enough points that, even with five games to go in the season, there is no way any other team can catch up to them. Manchester United is currently in second place. The level of play this season has been disappointing at the higher end of the table. I hope this summer's World Cup is more competitive.

For the last week and a half or so, the Philadelphia Phillies have played more consistent baseball. They are currently in a second place battle with the Washington Nationals. Another surprise is the New York Mets. They are currently in first place. Maybe my gloomy predictions for the Phillies and the Mets will be wrong. I'm ok with that.

This lack of nice weather is getting old. I hope spring actually decides to stick around here in Delaware at some point so that I can go and watch some of the local sports teams.

See you on the sidelines!!!
