Poetry reading at Abbott’s Mill to benefit MERR June 3

May 23, 2017

Abbott's Grill in Milford will host a poetry reading and book signing by Milford resident Elisabeth Stoner at 11 a.m., Saturday, June 3. Stoner published "Watermark," a collection of her poetry, in 2016. All proceeds from the sale of “Watermark” will be given to the Marine Education, Research and Rehabilitation Institute. The event is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served. Signed books may be purchased for $15.

The reading at Abbott's Grill is the second in a series of three. The first took place in March at Lewes Public Library, and a third reading is scheduled for September at Rehoboth Beach Public Library. Stoner, 83, gives an inside view of her poetry and herself as she introduces each poem. Her poetry reveals personal insights, wit and wisdom about family relationships, aging and her deep love of the ocean and its creatures. Rachel Hickerson, also of Milford, will serve as reader.

Suzanne Thurman, executive director of MERR, will be on hand to briefly discuss the organization and its work. MERR volunteers have been busy recently with an unusually high number of strandings of marine mammals.
