Produce safety training for small growers set March 11

The University of Delaware Cooperative Extension will hold a produce food safety training for growers in Delaware who sell primarily through direct market channels (farmers markets, farm stands, restaurant sales, CSAs), growers that require yearly training to sell at farmers markets, and small growers who sell less than $25,000 worth of produce. The local session is set for 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Saturday, March 11, at UD Carvel Center, 16483 County Seat Highway, Georgetown.

The sessions will offer four hours of instruction covering the following areas:

Introduction to Produce Safety
Worker Health, Hygiene and Training
Soil Amendments
Wildlife, Domesticated Animals and Land Use
Agricultural Water (Part I: Production Water, Part II: Postharvest Water)
Postharvest Handling and Sanitation
How to Develop a Farm Food Safety Plan.

After attending the entire course, participants will be eligible to receive a certificate from the University of Delaware that verifies they have completed the training course.
