Public forum on wells, nitrates canceled

March 2, 2018

A public forum on sprayfields, wells and nitrates has been canceled for March 2 because of the threat of severe weather.

Guest speakers from the Washington, D.C. area were going to speak 6 to 9 p.m. at the Indian River Senior Center about private wells and levels of nitrates in them.

Maria Payan, consultant with Socially Responsible Agricultural Project, said they canceled the forum in the interest of safety. “Many of our speakers are traveling. We also must think about the public safety of those who are local, as well,” she said.

Flooding, power outages and severe winds are predicted with the weather system along the East Coast. Payan said there is a possibility that the Chesapeake Bay Bridge will be closed, which would affect presenters driving to the event.

There is no further information on when the forum will be held.
