The Pumpkin Pie 5K run Nov. 27 at Grove Park in Rehoboth featured 348 runners and 41 walkers.

Sussex Tech senior Ben Bamforth, son of Race Director Tim Bamforth (“it’s rigged”) ran with a smile on his face, winning easily in 17:15. Ben was followed by Victor Rueda in 18:00, Ryan Wilson in 18:40, Justin Immel in 18:56 and Owen Firebaugh in 19:02.

Sally Marx, 24, from Potomac, Md., was the women’s winner in 20:40. She was followed on the leaderboard by Margarita Brose, masters winner, in 21:00, Olivia Montini in 21:07, Emily Cahill in 21:09 and Abby Andrews in 21:39.

Patrick Beebe, 46, won the male masters in 19:16.

The winners in each age group took home a pumpkin pie. Allison O’Reilly, 9, from Arlington Va., her brother Luke, 12, 24:16 and Ted O’Reilly, 38, 21:19, all won their age groups.

Jim O’Reilly, 46, ran 22:27, but didn’t win his age group and had to bring his own plate to the after party, as did Robin O’Reilly, 46, who finished in 29:03.

“A lot of families run on Thanksgiving weekend,” said Tim Bamforth. “A race at the beach gets everyone out of the house.”

Brian Johnston, 60, won his age group in 20:50, as did his wife Karen, 53, in 23:51.

The ninth annual Rehoboth Beach Seashore Marathon and Half-Marathon is set for Saturday, Dec. 3, beginning at 7 a.m. at the Bandstand in Rehoboth Beach.
