Que Pasa? The inaugural Que Pasa 5K to benefit the Delaware Kids Fund was started by the reigning Queen of the Conch Shell Jayne Challman of Rehoboth Beach, who won her age group at the Conch Honk contest in March in Key West, Fla. Dewey Mayor Diane Hanson spoke to the runners about the mission of the Kids Fund before yielding to Challman who transformed a mollusk to music as 227 runners, resembling a Viking invasion coming out of Rehoboth Bay, hot footed for the highway for a 5K through waves of heat.

Patrick Boettcher, 35, a former runner at Delaware and William Penn High School, was the overall winner in 17:41. Joining Patrick atop the leaderboard were Kyle Brightsbill in 18:46, Martin Rodriguez in 18:53, Anthony Romano in 19:10 and Bobby Hutton in 20:03.

“I’m in good shape, but not racing shape,” Boettcher said before the race. “I haven’t even thought of working on my speed.”
