Rabbi Michael Beals to speak at interfaith series Aug. 3

July 31, 2016

The Episcopal Parish of All Saints' Church and St. George's Chapel is hosting a summer series, One God, One Love, with the goal of broadening the community's interfaith and multicultural perspectives, and further understanding the effects spiritual practices have on  well-being. Rabbi Michael Beals of Congregation Beth Shalom in Wilmington will explore Judaism from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 3, at All Saints' Church, 18 Olive Ave. in Rehoboth Beach. The gathering is free of charge and begins with a light supper.

Beals has served the congregation for 11 years and is a graduate of the Jewish Theological Seminary with advanced degrees from the University of Judaism in Los Angeles and The American University in Washington, D.C. He also received the Raoul Wallenberg Fellowship at Hebrew University in Jerusalem. His community work includes the creation of multicultural training programs and music therapy for all ages. He was appointed by Gov. Jack Markell to serve on the interfaith Delaware Council of Faith-based Partnerships and is the council's vice president. "I am always inspired by Rabbi Michael Beals in our conversations about our faith traditions and about wider community issues," said fellow council member Father Max Wolf. "The wisdom that he shares is deeply insightful." All are invited.

The series' first presenter, brain researcher and neuropsychologist Angelo Bolea, affirmed the series' focus. "It is very healthy for the brain to contrast beliefs," Bolea said, "and our own faith is enhanced - not diminished - when we grow in understanding of others’ faith." For more information, call 302-227-7202 or go to www.allsaintsandstgeorges.org.
