Racial justice book group to discuss ‘The Underground Railroad’ Jan. 24

January 5, 2017

The Southern Delaware Alliance for Racial Justice book group will meet at 6 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 24, Lewes Public Library. January's selection is the New York Times best seller "The Underground Railroad" by Colson Whitehead.

In this watershed novel, Whitehead re-creates the unique terrors experienced by black people in the pre-Civil War era. His narrative seamlessly weaves the saga of America from the brutal importation of Africans to the unfulfilled promises of the present day. "The Underground Railroad" is at once a kinetic adventure tale of one woman's ferocious will to escape the horrors of bondage, and a shattering, powerful meditation on the history Americans all share.

The alliance is a nonpartisan secular organization that educates, informs and advocates for racial justice, equality and fair opportunity. Membership is free. For more information including future book selections, go to www.sdarj.org.
