Ralph C. Short, self-employed mechanic

Ralph C. Short, 83, of Dagsboro passed away peacefully at home Saturday, March 18, 2017.

Ralph was born in Georgetown, son of the late Emory Sr. and Onolee (Donovan) Short. He was a self-employed mechanic and owned Shorts Garage in Dagsboro. He loved collecting and restoring classic cars, NASCAR, and stock car racing. Ralph was a U.S. Air Force veteran honorably discharged in 1956 after four years' service.

In addition to his parents, Ralph is preceded in death by two brothers, Emory Short Jr., and Norman Short Sr.; and one sister, Joyce Hayes. He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Linda (Heathman) Short; two daughters, Dawn Robinson and husband Aaron of Georgetown, and Peggy Hernandez of California; three grandchildren, Grace Robinson, Rebecca Robinson and Mariah Hernandez; a sister, Irene Dickerson, and a brother, Wayne Short, both of Lewes; and his Pitbull mix, Molly B. The family would also like to share a special thank you to the nurses and staff of VITAS Hospice for their loving and devoted care to Ralph.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday, March 22, at noon, in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 609 E. Market St., Georgetown, with visitation after 11 a.m. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, Georgetown.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Whimsical Animal Rescue, Sussex County Chapter, PO Box 1697, Seaford, Del 19973.
