Reacting to crybabies about Lower Slower

October 12, 2017

Well, after reading the letters from Jane Rice and Jeff Walls I feel I have to respond, albeit for different reasons.

First Ms. Rice: I am always bemused when I read the almost weekly letters that usually fall under the category "Now that my family and I live comfortably in the Rehoboth Beach area, let's stop all future development so that I won't be inconvenienced." Well I'll say this; the actual time to prevent development was before her family moved down here. I find such letters both amusing and selfish.

My family moved to this area six years ago, and I'm grateful there were developments available. Now that we are living the good life here, I won't bemoan extra traffic and other such annoyances so that other families can move here and enjoy this area as well.

Now Mr. Walls: I am a full-time IT specialist living in the Lewes area. Even before we moved here it was quite obvious that well-paying jobs in my field were scarce at best.

That's why I made sure that telecommuting was an option and that my company was OK with it before making the move. I really don't understand his point. This is a resort area, for goodness sake.

The types of jobs he is looking for simply don't exist here.

If he and his family are going to leave in a huff because Lower Slower Delaware does not have the same job opportunities as the Route 202 corridor in King of Prussia, Pa., then as you so nicely stated in your letter, it's been nice.
