Rebecca Palmer Bowden, enjoyed grooming horses

Rebecca Louise Palmer Bowden, 75, of Millsboro, formerly of Lewes, died Sunday, Sept 3, 2017, at home surrounded by her loving family.

Becky, as she was fondly called by family, was born Nov 24, 1941, in Lewes to the late William G. Sr., and Althea C. Hitchens Palmer. Becky spent her entire life in Lewes until she and her husband Bernie decided to move to Millsboro to enjoy the peacefulness of country life.

Becky worked several jobs during her working career, Doxsee Co., Stango Western Auto and Barcroft; her last job lasted more than 40 years. Becky and her coworker were groomers, stable attendants for Smith Harness Racing Stables in Lewes, owned by Hazell Smith. Becky and Raymond took pride and pleasure in the care the horses received while on their watch.

Survivors include two daughters, Bernice L. Bowden and Sherita Brinkley, and one son, Bernie L. Bowden Jr., all of Millsboro; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; four brothers, William G. Jr., and Carol Palmer of Florida, James (Jimmy) Palmer of Lewes, Thomas C. and Doris Palmer of Felton and Franklin Palmer of Millsboro; two sisters, Josephine Blunt of Virginia and Bertha and Vaughn Jackson of Milton; and one first cousin, Jacob U. (Buddy) Hitchens of Milton.

Service: will be Saturday, Sept. 9, at 3:00 p.m. Friends may call at the church two hours before the service at Friendship Baptist Church, 500 W. 4th St., Lewes.
