Reflections on Blockhouse Pond artist

July 23, 2017

On the morning of June 25, I was walking the paved path that leads from the Fred Thompson Building to Blockhouse Pond. When I reached the point where the path intersected with the pond path, I looked down to my left and saw a single-lined arrow delicately pointing left. On my right was a chalked sign reading, "No Entry."

So I thought to myself, "OK. I'll follow you."

Next, I encountered the first bench overlooking the pond. Right in front of the bench was a yellow chalking of the sun with flowing light rays radiating out from its circumference and, in the center, a face-figure with a knowing smile looking out at me. I said to myself, "Really!"

So I walked on to the next bench where I found a perfectly drawn green heart, perhaps for a couple holding hands and taking in everything nature had to offer that day. Only a little farther, there was a chalking that read, “One Step At A Time." Now I was starting to feel like I was on a Buddhist walking meditation.

A little farther on, I came to the fork in the path that either continued around the pond or led out to my left where my car was parked. Appearing neatly at the point of the fork was a chalking that read, "Make Your Own Path."

Finally, I reached one of the benches where many walkers stop to enjoy a peaceful view of the pond. There to my amazement was a beautiful chalking that read "You Have Worth."

I continued on to the point where I re-encountered the chalking that read "No Entry."

Having come full circle, I felt so fortunate to have encountered an anonymous person who decided to share their wonderful gift with those who happened to be walking the Blockhouse pond path on that Sunday. I don't know who you are, but it's clear your heart is in the right place. You have a gift that can lighten life's burdens and bring a little ray of hope to a troubled world.

Thank you for sharing your gift with us.
