Register Sept. 6 or 8 for ESL classes to begin in Rehoboth Sept. 13

Volunteer teacher training set Aug. 31
August 25, 2016

The Lutheran Church of Our Savior in Rehoboth Beach will begin fall classes in English as a second language Tuesday, Sept. 13. Classes will be offered from 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. Students can attend either the morning or evening or both.

All levels from beginners to very advanced are offered. Beginner and intermediate levels concentrate on conversation, and the advanced and accelerated level classes work on grammar, writing and reading comprehension skills.

Registration for all classes will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. and 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 6 and Thursday, Sept. 8. The cost is $20. There is free child care at all the classes.

LCOS began ESL classes in 2003 and the program has continued to grow each year. Over 40 volunteers from many different professions and backgrounds serve as teachers. While it is helpful to know some Spanish for the beginning levels, most teachers do not speak Spanish. There will be a training session for teachers at 6 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 31.

Funding for the program is provided by the church, individual and business donations, and grants from the Delaware Community Foundation, the Arsht Cannon Fund and the Harry K. Foundation. The church is at 20276 Bay Vista Drive, Rehoboth Beach (behind Big Fish Grill). For more information, call Sam Flores at 302-645-8845 or contact the church office at 302-227-3066.
