Rehoboth Beach assistant building inspector Steve Kordek is retiring after 15 years on the job.

Kordek played a major role in code enforcement and occasionally acted as chief building inspector, most notably after the departure of Terri Sullivan and before the appointment of the current inspector, Dam Molina.

City officials honored Kordek at a retirement luncheon, where City Manager Sharon Lynn presented him with a plaque honoring his service. Lynn said Kordek has been a leader in the department since he joined in 2002 and has served professionally and impartially with friendliness and a sense of humor.

“Kordek’s knowledge and guidance have been tremendous. We all wish him a fulfilling and happy retirement,” Mayor Paul Kuhns said.

Kordek will be succeeded by Matthew Janis, who joined the department in November.
