Rehoboth physician elected surgeon general by two societies

Matthew John Barlow Jr., MD, has been recognized by two genealogical societies that carry out patriotic, historical and educational activities to perpetuate the memory and sacrifices of ancestors who early on fought for freedom.

At the 127th Annual Congress, National Society, Sons of the American Revolution, held July 7-12 in Knoxville, Tenn., Barlow was elected surgeon general.

At the triennial meeting of the General Society of the War of 1812, held in Plattsburgh, N.Y., Sept. 7-9, he also was elected surgeon general.

Barlow serves as state surgeon for the Delaware Society of the Sons of the American Revolution, and president of Caesar Rodney Chapter which comprises Sussex and Kent counties, and has the largest chapter membership in Delaware.

Barlow, a retired United States Army colonel, and his wife, Nancy, reside in Rehoboth Beach and have two daughters and six grandchildren. Nancy Barlow is a past regent of the Col. David Hall Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
